Iskra Shipyard signs €30M+ hybrid floating dock contract, strengthening Adriatic ship repair capability

14. 11. 2025

Iskra Shipyard has signed a €30+ million contract to build a 115-meter hybrid floating dock—the largest single investment in its history. With a 4,000-ton lifting capacity, the new dock will expand its ability to service everything from large ferries to superyachts.

Iskra Shipyard has marked a major milestone in its long-term development strategy through the signing of a contract for the construction of a new hybrid floating dock, valued at over €30 million. The project is positioned as the shipyard’s largest single investment under its current development plan, reflecting a strategic commitment to strengthening ship repair and refit capability in the Adriatic region and beyond.

According to publicly shared information, the contract was signed in Varna and involves international collaboration across multiple countries and specialist organizations. The signing was carried out by Roko Vuletić, CEO of Iskra Shipyard in Šibenik, and Danail Slavov, General Director of TEREM-SHIPYARD Flotski Arsenal - VARNA LTD, where the dock is stated to be built. The design is attributed to Norden Ship Design House.

The published preliminary technical characteristics describe a floating dock with a total length of 115.0 m and pontoon length of 110.0 m, an overall width of 32.4 m and internal width of 26.4 m, a height of 12.4 m, and a maximum draft of 11.4 m. The stated lifting capacity is 4,000 tons. (Any additional specifications—such as pumping capacity, ballast system configuration, automation level, shore-power integration, or classification—are unspecified in the available material and should be confirmed in the official technical brief before publication.)

The dock is also described as a hybrid solution built from reinforced marine concrete with steel side towers, with the goal of combining durability, longevity, and reduced maintenance needs. In parallel, the project narrative places emphasis on sustainability and long-term resilience—framing the dock as an investment intended not only to expand capacity, but to modernize infrastructure in line with evolving maritime expectations.

From an operational perspective, the dock is presented as enabling service for a wide spectrum of vessels. Public references indicate suitability ranging from large Jadrolinija ferries to yachts over 70 meters, with additional mentions linking the capability to future servicing potential for Croatian Navy corvettes. These references underline a strategic intent to support both commercial and public-sector maritime needs, though specific customer commitments and use-case schedules should be treated as unspecified until confirmed through approved communications.

The hybrid dock investment is being framed as a platform for the future—an infrastructure step designed to raise ship repair and refit capability in the Adriatic Sea and the wider Mediterranean Sea maritime area. As next steps, Iskra Shipyard will align project execution milestones, partner coordination, and technical deliverables for full transparency in line with contractual and regulatory requirements.
